The first-ever diesel F-150 is due this coming spring.
KhodroCar - It was precisely a year ago when Ford unveiled the 2018MY F-150 with a series of tweaks, among which was the promise of a diesel engine. Now, the Blue Oval is finally ready to spill the beans about the technical specifications of its workhorse equipped with the 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine, which is set to arrive this spring to bring the F-150’s total number of available engines to six.
Without further ado, here are all the juicy numbers. The V6 churns 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts) and delivers the full 440 pound-feet (597 Newton-meters) of torque from a low 1,750 rpm. The diesel-propelled F-150 has a towing capacity of 11,400 pounds and a payload capacity of 2,020 pounds. With this being a diesel, fuel efficiency is very important for potential buyers and the Blue Oval says the pickup truck will do an EPA-estimated 30 miles per gallon on the highway. You’ll have to wait until this spring for the final numbers.
The 3.0-liter V6 diesel will be paired to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission specifically adapted to the Ford F-150’s newly gained engine. Ford’s engineers have fiddled with the SelectShift gearbox to optimize power and low-end torque while prioritizing fuel efficiency, further bolstered by the implementation of standard start/stop technology.
Should you be interested in placing an order for the 2018 Ford F-150 fitted with the Power Stroke diesel engine, Ford says it will open the order books in mid-January prior to kicking off customer deliveries this spring. The six-cylinder mill is going to be offered for both 4x2 and 4x4 versions and will be available on the Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum SuperCrew trucks equipped with a 5.5-foot or 6.5-foot bed as well as for the SuperCab with the 6.5-foot bed.
