PSA is setting itself up for a return to the U.S. market.
Khodrocar - France's PSA Group is preparing for a return to the North American market after a near 30-year hiatus, the company's top executive has revealed.

Speaking to Automotive News on the sidelines of the recent Frankfurt Motor Show, PSA CEO Carlos Tavares revealed that the company is engineering its next-generation vehicles to comply with U.S. regulations.

"That means that from three years down the road we'll be able to push the button, if we decide to do so, in terms of product compliance vis-a-vis the U.S. regulations," he said.

Although PSA's U.S.-compliant vehicles could be ready as soon as 2021, it will likely be the middle of next decade before the automaker can make a return to the U.S. The company also hasn't stated which of its brands could potentially launch here, although the DS luxury brand seems more likely than either Peugeot or Citroen.

PSA, which recently purchased Opel from General Motors, will officially return to the U.S. market with a car-sharing service this year.
