Khodrocar - Toyota has revealed the fifth-generation Avalon, arriving by late spring for the 2019 model year.
The full-size sedan is now underpinned by the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, transitioning to a wider and longer footprint with a longer wheelbase and lower height. The transition follows a broader trend in the sedan segment, consistent with the recently redesigned Honda Accord.
Toyota designers were given a bit more freedom to create a bolder exterior design. The company suggests manufacturing innovations also contributed to more complex surfaces, penned under the philosophy of "Technical Beauty."
Described as a 'mid-premium' sedan, the new Avalon is the first Toyota-badged model to be available with adaptive variable suspension for improved ride quality and handling. A new multi-link rear suspension system is said to achieve a suppler ride on all trim levels, despite moving to stiffer springs and stabilizer bars.
The 2019 Avalon features a 9.0-inch infotainment system, with a 7.0-inch central display on the instrument cluster. Top trim levels are equipped with a 10-inch head-up display that presents vehicle and engine speeds, navigation information, audio settings and other details. Drivers can take advantage of support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Android Alexa.
Buyers looking for the most premium experience can upgrade to Yamaha wood, a two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel and aluminum trim.
Toyota presumably hopes the new Avalon's fresh styling, new technology and refinement will help turn the tide after sales dropped by 32 percent in the US last year.
